Electronic Structure

This second part of the tutorial looks at the 1s 2s 2p etc order up to 36 electrons (known as the electronic configuration or electronic structure of an element). We also look at adding electrons to orbitals that aren’t full and the correct way to do this, which is known as the Aufbau principle i.e. one electron in each orbital and then pair them up.

The importance is mentioned at the end as it is one of those important principles that can be applied to many other topics allowing you to work out, for example, ionisation energies or what ions a metal forms.
