Ionisation Energies

We firstly look at what ionisation energy is and the definition which is always required for exams. How it varies down a group and across a period (trends) and the three factors that effect it: size, shielding and nuclear charge. Successive ionisation energies of an element are a big exam favourite (look for the big jumps in values) and the unexpected dips in values that break the trend between groups 2-3 and groups 5-6.
